UroLift

UroLift, also called prostatic urethral lift, is a minimally invasive option for urinary symptoms caused by benign prostate enlargement (BPH). A delivery device is passed through the urethra and small implants hold obstructing prostate tissue away from the urinary channel. It does not use heat or remove prostate tissue. A urologist will assess your symptoms, prostate anatomy, health and treatment goals to decide whether it may suit you.

How UroLift works

The urologist places small implants through the urethra to lift and hold enlarged prostate tissue away from the urinary channel. The implants remain in place. The procedure is intended to improve the opening for urine flow without cutting, heating or removing tissue.

What to discuss with your urologist

Suitability depends on your prostate anatomy, symptoms, medical history and preferences. Ask about expected benefits, alternatives and whether this procedure is appropriate for you.

Recovery and possible side effects

Temporary burning or discomfort during urination, blood in the urine, urinary urgency or pelvic discomfort may occur. As with any procedure, bleeding, infection or other complications are possible. Your care team will explain the risks and recovery plan for your situation.
