The Circumcision Procedure

Circumcision is surgery to remove the foreskin. Before the procedure, your urologist will review your health, explain the planned technique and anaesthesia, and answer questions about preparation and recovery.

Before the procedure

Your care team will assess your health and discuss medicines, anaesthesia, expected benefits, possible risks and alternatives. Follow the instructions provided by your clinic, including any guidance about eating, drinking or medicines before surgery.

During the procedure

The surgeon removes the foreskin using the planned surgical technique. The procedure is performed with anaesthesia selected for your circumstances. The wound is closed and dressed, and your care team will explain what to expect before you go home.

Questions to ask your urologist

  • Why is circumcision being recommended in my case?
  • Are there suitable alternatives?
  • What anaesthesia and aftercare will I need?
  • When should I contact the clinic after surgery?
